highly regarded speaker, highly inspirational poet and writer, your free time is
very limited and I appreciate you sharing it with me.
Waqar:
Hi Hina. First of all, thank you for your interest in my work and I am really
honored to be interviewed by House2House. Secondly, I congratulate Mr. Nasim
Malik and his dedicated team for their marvelous achievements such as winning
“The Asia Pacific International Property Award for 2009”. I wish you all for
more successes.
Hina: Thank you Waqar. So
let’s begin. Please share a little about you, your family and your education?
Waqar:
Well. As you know Hina, my name is Mian Waqar ul Islam and I belong to a Saraiki
speaking Arain family. Actually, I am settled in Lahore and my family is living
in Mailsi, Vehari-Multan. Our relatives are chiefly associated with farming.
However, my father is an experienced advocate and he remained the president of
“Mailsi Bar Association” for the various times.
In academic qualification, I hold an “MBA” degree from Newport
University-USA. After that, I finished Cisco and Microsoft Professional
Certifications from Corvit System. Later, I participated in various on-job
professional training sessions from world’s leading manufacturers and solution
providers such as SebaKMT-Germany, Dynacord-Germany, Media Bop-China, Bannermate-China,
Chocolate Graphics-Australia, GAP America-USA, Guinn Consultancy Group-USA and
GTCCL-China.
Hina: Oh wow. Please also share a little about
your professional activities?
Waqar:
Well. At present, I am working with Niazi Group as a “Director Operations” and
engaged in the company's strategic planning and innovative solution practice
areas. Here, I am actively involved in three projects including Adan Villas-Murree,
Alnoor Cargo City-Gwadar and Int’l Rite Aid Pharma-Lahore.
I am also the Co-founder and
Principal Consultant of Marvel System, which represents Guinn Consultancy Group
USA in Pakistan. I have over 10 years consulting experience in the areas of
diversity and inclusion, franchising and licensing, international marketing,
team-building, business development, event management, strategic planning and
executive counseling.
Hina: Great. Are you
affiliated with any literary or social organization?
Waqar:
Yeah. Firstly, I am a regular member and also a media adviser of Adab Saraae,
which is an Urdu literary organization, working in Pakistan since 1988.
Secondly, I am also member of South Asian Alliance of Medical Experts – SAAME
which is conducting free medical camping in various cities of South
Punjab.
Hina: Nice to know. How does your social work
fit in with your other roles?
Waqar:
I do not see any conflict between social work and professional activities
because it’s a question of managing time. It’s a question of having a team and
creating a sustainable and integrated organizational concept, which can continue
work even if you are not there all the time.
Hina: That’s true. Now
tell me about the most influential people in your life?
Waqar:
Undoubtedly, the most influential people in my life have been my MOTHER and
FATHER. It is to them that I credit many of my educational, professional,
accomplishments and successes. Here I also give an inclusive thanks to my wife,
who strongly encouraged me to complete my book “Man Katehra”.
Waqar:
Let’s talk about your poetry. What had motivated you to write poetry?
Waqar: Firstly, I think by
nature I am a self-motivated poet. Secondly, my father’s social writings,
political speeches and interpretations of Alama Iqbal’s poetry had always
motivated me to write poetry, at that time I was very young and ever since I
have been fascinated by poetry being a form of self expression. However, there
have been a vast number of lives that have touched my soul including my
relatives, friends, associates, teachers, spiritual scholars, executives,
advisors, partners and various writers.
Hina: Okay. How would you
describe your book “Man Katehra”?
Waqar:
Well, “Man Katehra” is the title of my Icebreaking publication and also the core
message of my first poetry collection. English Translation of the word “Man
Katehra” is “self-catharses and self-purification”. However, “Man Kathera” is a
multi-facet book that deals with various aspects of one’s daily life including
love, humor, culture, religion, passion, belief, pain, friendship, happiness and
hope. “Man Katehara” is a vibrant poetic source that communicates about
self-actualization.
